My first steps into the world of tech started at age 9 with the building of a crystal radio set. A couple of years later I got my hands on some BASIC programming books and knew immediately that that was what I wanted to do when I grew up.
Years later, while studying Computer Engineering, I spent a bored summer holiday organizing a collaboration between authors of a number of online articles about game programming, with the aim of putting all information into a single collection and filling in any major gaps that were missing. That project, known as "The PC Game Programmers Encyclopedia" (or PCGPE), was an immediate world-wide hit with the then-fledgling internet game programming community. For me personally it opened up a world of opportunities and kick-started what would be a 16-year career as a professional game developer working for some of the best studios in the world including Activision in LA, Bullfrog in Guildford/UK, Electronic Arts in Vancouver, THQ in Melbourne and a host of others.
In 2009 I met my wife, Heidi, and we instantly bonded over a shared love of food, wine and travel. Two years later we welcomed our son, Ascher, to the family, who subsequently inherited my own obsession for computer games. As a family, travel is very high on our agenda, with Europe being our preferred destination.
When not programming for fun I love trying new things. Over the years I've gotten involved in long-distance walking, running, cycling, sky-diving and flying light aircraft. Electronics has had continual presence in my life, I usually have at least a couple of personal projects on the go at any given moment. And of course I still love playing games...Kerbal Space Program, Factorio and multiple Zachtronics titles being just some of the permanent shortcuts on my desktop.
